BS 800 Heavy
Duty Bonsai Shears 2 1/2 inch blades, overall
length is 8 inches. These large handled bonsai shears are the most
versatile tool in my box. I use them for all sorts of jobs. For bonsai
they are used to prune small branches, and remove leaves. For general
garden use they can be used for deadheading, general perennial pruning,
trimming shrubs, cutting back grasses, etc. Your hand and thumb fit
inside the large handles so no return spring is necessary. They are
very strong, comfortable to use, and cause little fatigue. I find this
size best for most people and most jobs. Those of you with smaller
hands should consider the smaller version below, BS 775. Carbon steel. $36.00
BS 775 Regular Duty Bonsai Shears
Blade length is 2 1/4 inches, overall length is 7 3/4 inches. These
shears are identical to the ones above but are slightly smaller and
lighter in weight. Carbon steel. Not pictured.
$30.00
BS 475 Small
Bonsai Shears Blade length is 1 3/4 inches,
overall length is 4 7/8. These shears are identical to the Regular Duty
Bonsai Shears above, but are smaller, for small delicate work.
Excellent for work on Mame bonsai, the small handles give a very fine
degree of control. These are little gems. Carbon steel. $22.00.

LS 850 Leaf
and Branch Bonsai Shears Blade Length is 2
1/4 inches, overall length is 8 1/2 inches. These shears are a
different shape from the above shears. The handles are smaller and
longer, but still accept your whole hand. The smaller handles give you
a finer degree of control. The thin blades and long thin profile are
ideal for reaching into bonsai to prune small branches and trim leaves.
Carbon steel. $30.00

LS 650 Leaf and Branch
Bonsai Shears Blade Length is 1 3/4 inches,
overall length is 6 1/4 inches. These shears are identical to LS 850,
but smaller for more delicate work, or smaller hands. Carbon steel.
$22.00.

BTS 725 Budding
and Trimming Shears Blade Length is 1 1/4
inches, overall length is 7 1/4 inches. These are for removing leaves
and buds, particularly inside bonsai. They work like English grass
edging shears. You squeeze the U shaped shears together to cut and they
open by spring action automatically. Their very thin profile and lack
of handles allow you to cut inside the tree with disturbing the
branches. Carbon steel. $26.00...

CC 800
Concave Branch Cutters Overall length is 8
inches. Concave cutters are the only tool for which there is no western
equivalent for those just starting bonsai. There is nearly universal
agreement that this is the one specialized tool you will eventually
have to buy to continue training bonsai. The angled jaws allow you to
head back and remove branches very close to the trunk or main branch.
They also make a slight concave depression which will heal over
cleanly, without a bump. Carbon steel.
$29.00
SCC 775 Spherical Concave Branch
Cutters Overall length is 7 3/4 inches. These
concave cutters do the same job as the ones above, but the jaws are
curved. This produces a rounder and smoother concave depression. Not
pictured.
$49.00
KC 825 Spherical Knob Cutters
Overall length is 8 1/4 inches. Knob cutters are for removing stubs,
knobs, and other protrusions from trunks and branches. They are also
excellent curving tools for large cuts, allowing you to quickly remove
disc shaped bites of wood to shape large saw cuts. This is done to
improve taper and produce depressions in otherwise flat saw cuts,
allowing a smooth section of scar tissue to form. I use them all the
time for large work, those working with small bonsai only can use
concave cutters as a replacement. Carbon steel. Not pictured.
$39.00
WC 800 Wire Cutters
Overall length is 8 inches. These wire cutters have straight handles
and very short strong jaws at the tip. They are for cutting wire and
removing wire from bonsai. Since they cut at the very tip they can
remove wire from branches by nipping it about every inch or so, and
allowing the wire to fall off. This is the recommended method of
removing wire. It should never be unwound from the branches. There is
too much danger of scarring the branch, or breaking nearby small
branches. Carbon steel. Not pictured.
$39.00
FS 325 Folding
Saw Blade length is 3 1/2 inches. The blade
of this little saw folds neatly back into the handle for compactness
and safe storage. The teeth are very small and it produces a remarkably
fine (smooth) cut. It is used for trunk chops and removing larger
branches.
